Beating Heart or Pulsing Music

                                          Chapter 6: Awakening


Darkwing approached the tube and looked at the rookie who was sleeping within. Placing his hand on the glass he shook his head.
"What'd they do to you?"


Darkwarrior walked over to the tube's control panel and inserted a small disc into the card slot. He then punched in a few codes and the within seconds steam engulfed the tube as the green liquid drained out and the wires holding the pikachu in place detached as she fell to the bottom.

Darkwing rushed over and checked her pulse. "She's alive!"

Shade's eyes snapped open but, they were glowing an erie red.

Oblivious to the danger, Darkwing smiled at her. "C'mon, let's go home."

Her cheeks sparked and Darkwing was thrown back with a blast of green thunder. He was slammed against the far off wall. Darkwarrior growled at the scene. "I knew this was too easy!"

Shade was glaring at Darkwarrior next, as the armored mallard pulled out a weapon. "What are you doing?" Darkwing shouted to his older self.

"She's no longer the rat you knew! It's either her or us and guess who I pick."

Darkwing stood in Darkwarrior's way. "No, this isn't right. It's not her fault!"

Without warning they were both struck with another blast of green thunder. The electric mouse ran to charge them when Darkwarrior threw a flash bomb in the air. Grabbing Darkwing by his cape, Darkwarrior pulled him into the vent as he followed close behind.

Darkwing tried to push past him. "I'm not leaving her behind!" The armored mallard's pateince ran out. With one punch Darkwing was knocked out cold. "It's too late hero, she's already gone." Dragging the Darkwing along, Darkwarrior retraced their steps back to the pathway leading outside.


Meanwhile, Giovanni and the scientist went back into the room. Shade glared at them through murderous eyes. Giovanni shoved the scientist ahead of him and ran back inside the room and closed the door. The scientist never stood a chance. He was roasted alive by the power of the pikachu's wrath.

Thinking quickly, Giovanni burned all the data onto a disc and grabbed what important research papers he could. Calling for his persain he ran outside. The factory was going up in flames. Shade had traveled through the building and wreaked havoc. electricuting anyone who crossed her path or got in her way.


Darkwarrior tossed the hero into the jet and followed. He quickly revved up the engines and began to rise into the sky. Darkwing woke up and rubbed his head. He looked down at the scene below. Fire erupted from several windows as thick black smoke rose into the sunset. It was then that he noticed a small yellow dot on the roof.

Thinking on instinct, He opened the hatch on the Doom Quack. "What are you doing?!" Darkwarrior shouted as the hero climbed onto the wing. "Donig what a hero does best!" Darkwing shouted back as he aimed and jumped off the jet.


"You stupid idiot!" The armored mallard called back.


Shade was coughing from the thick smoke that filled her lungs but, it only seemed to anger her further. She roared with anger and unleashed another blast of green thunder into a window.  Darkwing tumbled onto the roof and landed a few feet away from the eletric mouse.

"Shade! we've got to get out of here! This place could blow any minute! GAH!" Darkwing jumped out of the way as Shade went at him with her razor sharp tail.

He tried several times to bring the rookie to her senses but, each time she responded with another attack on his life.

"Shade! I didn't come all this way to let you die in a fire! Now snap out of it and let's go home!"

With a mighty roar Shade blasted the hero with another Green Thunder attack. The blast sent Darkwing flying over the edge of the building. He grabbed the ledge at the last second. Looking up, Shade was standing over him, glaring down.

With her upper lip quivering with rage; fangs bared, cheeks sparking; She was aiming for the kill.


The wind suddenly kicked up as the Doom Quack hovered right in front of the pikachu. Shade growled at the jet as she charged up for another attack. Darkwarrior fired a net which wrapped around the mouse. Flipping a switch her power was drained as she was electricuted in return. Finally when she couldn't handle anymore Shade passed out from the pain.

A rope ladder was lowered so Darkwing could haul himself up.

As the Doom Quack flew away from the building, the entire factory exploded. Darkwarrior placed Shade in a rubber straight jacket. It was a little hard to secure her because the jacket didn't fit but, with a minor adjustment he made it fit. He then turned off the auto pilot and turned his attnetion to Darkwing.

"That was a stupid, reckless stunt you pulled! D'you realise you could have killed us both?"

"Pfft, what are you talking about, you were safe in your jet the whole time."

Darkwarrior slapped the back of Darkwing's head. "THINK ABOUT IT HERO! I'm you from the future! If you die now, I'll vanish from existance!"


Darkwing rubbed the back of his head where he was struck. "Ok, I get it."
He glanced back at the rookie who was unconcious. "So, what are we going to do about her?"

"That's your problem. Once we get back to St. Canard your on your own. I say, throwing her out of the jet now would save the city a large amount of trouble and damage but, if you don't want to take my advice it's your funeral."



Both mallards rode in silence for the rest of the trip. Soon, the familair scene of St. Canard came into view. The Doom Quack hovered above the bridge and dropped off Darkwing, the unconcious Shade and the Rat Catcher.

Without another word Darkwarrior took off, heading back to his hideout. Darkwing looked down at the rookie that he held in his arms. "Whatever they did to you, I'm going to undo it. I'll prove Darkwarrior wrong. It's the least I owe you."
